The Things We Keep Tell Our Story. The mission of Heirloom Appraisal Services and Organizing Solutions is to value and guide the transition of all things cherished.
Heather Dawson was born into a family owned and managed Auction and Appraisal business in Bernardsville, New Jersey. The company started as a grass roots tag sale company in the mid 1970’s and grew into a reputable, regional auction company that partnered with Christie’s and Sothebys often. Heather worked in her families auction and appraisal business from age 13 years old to adulthood. She apprenticed as an appraiser with her mother, Linda Dawson, (a former ASA regional chair and former Antiques Roadshow Appraiser). Heather attended the NYU American Association of Appraisers course in 1996. Since then, she has completed ISA’s core coursework and USPAP compliance course.
Heather studied education at Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY. She went on to complete her student teaching in the field of special needs and learning disabilities at Columbia Universities Teachers College in NY, NY. Heather worked as a Special Education teacher in New York, New Hampshire and Colorado. During that time, she owned a small antiques and vintage resale business on ETSY.com and in various antique store spaces. The love for antiques and collectibles has stayed with her consistently.
Eventually, Heather decided to part ways with her teaching career and pursue the estate and auction business full time. She worked for the online auction company, Everything But The House, (EBTH.com), as an estate sale specialist for almost two years. At the close of her time working for EBTH.com she decided to shift gears into practicing only personal property appraisal work. Her company, Heirloom Appraisal Services and Organizing Solutions, provides clients with valuations for estate planning, insurance purposes, damages claims. probate and divorce settlements. While she has stepped away from selling and brokering items, Heather does provide clients with reliable resources for selling, donating and liquidating estate contents. In addition, she will organize any space a person wants to rightsize or downsize into.
Heather is a residential contents appraiser. She is able to appraise collectibles, furniture, silver, porcelain, china, mid century modern items, home decoratives and decorative art. Heather’s unique specialty area is late 19th century, early 20th century, mid century and contemporary designer costume jewelry.
